I don't know why, but lately I have been super motivated to draw! (Which I am not complaining about!)
Your probably thinking: "but Catherine your a illustrator, you do portraits, you draw everyday!" - and while yes that is true, I do illustrate daily, but I don't illustrate daily for myself!
Last September, I did a drawing prompt challenge, this pushed me out of my comfort zone hugely! - I wanted to experiment with different materials; I was primarily a digital artist. Sure I had done some experiments in university, but nothing I was super passionate about back at home. But this drawing challenge changed that! It completely changed the way I view materials and digital artwork! Which is where my Katnipp Komics came to life!
This is also where a lot of my inspiration for mug designs came from, and some of these have been my best sellers on etsy!
So what's the point of this blogpost you maybe wondering? Well I'll tell you!
Next month I am going to set up a Drawing prompt challenge and I will continue to do so every month this year to improve my illustration style.
I urge every creative to join in! It doesn't even have to be drawings you create, it could be anything, from dreamcatchers to crafting frames, those drawing prompts could be the start of your next best seller!
Or maybe you want to try out a different drawing medium? Go ahead and purchase some and experiment! - I recently purchased the copic Caio markers, and honestly they are really the best markers to work with so far (I just wish they were more affordable so I could buy them all! Mwahaha)
You don't need to buy new supplies, you can work with anything you have, even if it's just 2 mins a day!
So I'll see you in the next blogpost, which will be the new drawing prompts list ready for February!
I'll see you in the next one
